✦ Frequently Asked Questions ✦

What You’re Probably Wondering

Honest answers, practical details, and a little reassurance before you apply.

Can I become a travel advisor from home?

Yes. You can build your travel advising business from home, including alongside family responsibilities or another career.

You can shape your schedule, but flexibility comes with responsibility: clients, payments, deadlines, and travel issues still need timely care.

How much does it cost to start?

Wand & Compass does not charge an agency fee to join, onboard, or complete Wayfinder Travel Academy.

No startup fee does not mean there are no business expenses. Required tools and optional spending are separate from the training included with Wand & Compass. We explain current requirements before you commit.

When do I start making money?

Usually not right away—and that is important to say clearly. Travel takes time to plan, and commission is generally paid after your client travels and the supplier pays Wand & Compass.

Early on, you are also building your client base, reputation, knowledge, and confidence. Building a client base takes time and consistent work. There is no guaranteed income or set timeline for earning it.

Will the agency give me clients?

Not automatically. As an independent travel advisor, you build your own client base over time.

We provide training, marketing resources, support, mentorship, and opportunities to help you grow. Your business grows by earning trust and taking excellent care of the people who book with you.

Is this a multi-level marketing (MLM) company?

No. Wand & Compass is a boutique travel agency, not a multi-level marketing company.

Advisors earn commission by planning and booking eligible travel.

Are there travel perks and discounts?

They can be part of the fun, but they should be considered a bonus—not the reason to become a travel advisor.

Once you meet applicable eligibility requirements, opportunities may include advisor rates, supplier education, familiarization trips, and training events. Their real value is the firsthand knowledge they help you bring back to clients.

Do I need experience?

No travel industry experience is required. Curiosity, reliability, and a willingness to learn matter more.

Wayfinder Travel Academy gives you the foundation, while mentorship and continuing education help you grow once you begin working with real clients.

Can I do this around my family and other work?

Yes. You can build your business alongside parenting, another career, school schedules, and other commitments.

There is flexibility in when you work, but client needs and deadlines still require consistent follow through. The goal is a business that works with your life while giving clients the care they deserve.

Do I have to sell only Disney?

Not at all. Disney Destinations are a major part of our agency, and Wand & Compass is proud to be EarMarked by Disney.

As your training and interests develop, you can grow into Universal, cruises, all-inclusive resorts, Europe, Hawaii, custom vacations, and destinations around the world.

Am I an employee or an independent contractor?

Wand & Compass travel advisors are independent contractors, not salaried employees.

You build your own business and client base, with training, systems, resources, mentorship, supplier relationships, and community provided by Wand & Compass.

How does commission work?

Travel advisors earn commission on eligible travel bookings under the applicable supplier terms. The supplier pays Wand & Compass, and you receive your contracted advisor share after that commission is received.

Timing varies by supplier and vacation type, and commission is commonly paid after the client has traveled. Wayfinder Travel Academy covers both the booking process and the business behind it.

How long does the training take?

Wayfinder Travel Academy includes lessons you can work through at your own pace, along with support and checkpoints. Course access is released by leadership as you progress, so self-paced does not mean every course opens automatically.

The time it takes will depend on your pace and the steps you need to complete. The goal is understanding the work, and learning continues after your initial training.

Are there ongoing business expenses?

There is no agency startup fee to join Wand & Compass.

Yes. Running your own business can involve costs for required systems and professional tools, as well as optional marketing or additional education. No startup fee does not mean every business expense is covered.

Ask us for the current required tools, costs, and any activity-specific requirements before you commit.

What happens after I apply?

First, we get to know you. We review your application, learn what interests you about travel, and talk about what you hope to build.

If it looks like a mutual fit, we connect, answer questions, and discuss the opportunity. If we both choose to move forward, you sign the Independent Contractor Agreement. We then provide your agent profile and Agent Portal access so you can begin account setup and Wayfinder Travel Academy.
