Do I need any experience to become a travel agent?

Not at all. Many of our most successful advisors came to us with zero industry experience — just a love of travel and a desire to help families create memories. Our Wayfinder Travel Academy is built from the ground up for beginners, and we walk you through everything step by step. If you're passionate and willing to learn, you have everything you need to get started.

How does the training work?

Our training is delivered through the Wayfinder Travel Academy — a six-course curriculum you work through at your own pace, from wherever you are. Each course covers a different area of the business, from understanding the travel industry to booking Disney vacations, cruises, and all-inclusive resorts. After each course, you'll have a one-on-one mentor session to review what you've learned, ask questions, and get personalized guidance before moving forward.

How much does it cost to get started?

There is a small startup investment to join the Wand & Compass team, which covers your onboarding, training access, and the tools and resources you'll need to get your business off the ground. We believe in being transparent about this from the start — and we're happy to walk you through everything during your application conversation so there are no surprises.

Question 4

How do travel agents earn money?

Accepted Answer

Travel advisors earn commission from the suppliers they book — resorts, cruise lines, tour operators, and more. When you book a vacation for a client, the supplier pays a commission on that booking. You don't charge your clients extra; the commission comes from the supplier's side. As you grow your client base and your booking volume increases, so does your income. Many of our advisors also charge planning fees for their expertise, which is an additional income stream.

How much time does this take — can I do it around my family and other work?

Absolutely. Most of our advisors start part-time, building their business around their families, their jobs, and their lives. This is one of the things we love most about this career — it's genuinely flexible. You set your own hours, work from home, and take on as many or as few clients as you choose. Some advisors grow it into a full-time business; others keep it as a meaningful side income. Either path is completely valid here.

Do I have to sell only Disney, or can I book other destinations?

Disney is our specialty and our heart — but it's far from the only thing we do. Wand & Compass advisors book Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Aulani, and Adventures by Disney, but also Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, Sandals, Beaches, all-inclusive resorts, Universal Orlando, European adventures, and more. You'll be trained across all of our destination specialties so you can serve a wide range of families and travel dreams.
